Magical Music Hall

Every theatre is different. But Wiltons Music Hall really is unique.

It has seen many transformations since starting its life as a music hall in the 1850s. The most recent was about 5 years ago.

That makeover established a “shabby chic” theatre design style, since famously adopted at Battersea Arts Centre and Alexandra Palace.

Our job was to improve the sight lines in the balcony by raising the floor. As Wiltons is a listed building we did this in Metrodeck (so it could always be removed) and covered them in Victorian floorboards (to fit the aesthetic).

Balcony Floor

The floorboards you see now are all on a new Metrodeck floor, offering a much better view of the stage.

Old and Smart

The Victorian floorboards match the venue’s own floor beautifully. But we have hidden cable traps in them so the tech team can work efficiently.

Main Stage

New seating layouts led to us being asked to recess the stage front so as to give the audience in the front row more leg room.

Bespoke Storage

On such a cramped site there’s never enough indoor storage space. Even outdoors everything has to be made bespoke - so that’s what we did.

Waiting for the Audience

Covid conditions meant everything took longer to complete. But now it’s done we can’t wait to see audiences back again!

My every request has been met with creative and sympathetic solutions, flexibility and professionalism.

Now when I just can’t work out how to do it, I know who to ask
