All Change
Jacksons Lane has been at the heart of the
North London performance scene for more than 45 years.
So it’s hardly surprising that it was in need of a bit of sprucing up.
It’s a great auditorium.
But the stage was struggling, the tiers were tired and the seats were…sub-optimal!
The theatre wanted a comprehensive yet affordable solution that could be
dovetailed into the wider programme of work being undertaken.
They came to Stage & Tiers and we ticked all the boxes.
“Thanks for your work. The tiers look and feel beautiful.”
First the stage…
Birch ply on a strong sub-frame, with a sacrificial layer of oil-tempered hardboard on top. All scribed into the walls.
Then the tiers…
Bespoke Metrodeck units with stained tops provided a smart and stable base for new seats.
And finally the seats…
Proper theatre seats with pocket-sprung upholstery.
And all demountable, for maximum versatility.
Decades of experience mean we always take the practical view. We focus on what will work best for you in the months and years to come.
There was lots of discussion about how to make the space as wheelchair friendly as possible. And about how to do all that without losing the theatre’s great sight lines.
So, as well as what’s described above, we:
designed a special, removable platform for the back row
specified both fixed and demountable high-crown seats
included high-density stacking chairs for use by wheelchair companions
built bespoke, removable aisle steps with nosings
supplied extra decks to create a stage extension
fixed elegant new rails along both walls
built special treads to connect the aisle to the stage
installed two sets of usher seats
It’s smart, comfortable and practical.
And ready for another half century of great performances.
